All day game format
- 2 teams - red / blue
- The game lasts all day. Or perhaps after a short ‘warm-up’ game.
- Each team has an HQ building or area which they have to protect from attack throughout the exercise.
- Each team can plan and run its own ops to attack each others HQ at any time and therefore each team must run stag/patrols to protect its HQ.
- Additionally, the game has operations given to each team HQ in envelopes by a marshal at designated times throughout the day.
- Points are awarded for each successful mission completed by and points are lost for each invasion of the teams HQ.
Examples of the timed ops could be -
1, At 1030 Red team gets an op to capture a friendly downed pilot (played by a marshal) who is located in a certain area. At the same time Blue team receives ‘Intelligence’ that an enemy aircraft has crashed and they should search for and capture any survivors.
2, At 1600 Blue team gets a op to infiltrate an enemy outpost (a different building/area) and capture a flag within 1 hour. At the same time Red team receives information suggesting an attack on their outpost is imminent and should defend it at all costs.
3, At 1200 Red team gets a op to covertly recon a specific area/building and report what they see (ie, the colour of a flag, etc). Blue team are give an op to increase defensive patrols in the same area.
Multiple ops can be running at one time forcing teams to effectively manage their players.
This format should provide enough excitement for all levels of players throughout the day but does require a certain degree of a ‘chain of command’. ie, there needs to be people in each team who are confident in organising other players on the operations and the other players need to be able to follow these orders.
It worked for a bunch of cadets so I think it should for us lot !
